Michael Paynter, founder and CEO of Tier3 Technologies, is also a 35+ year veteran of the telecommunications and IT industry. Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, Tier3 was recently named the recipient of the Channel Partners 360° Award sponsored by AT&T. This award recognizes firms delivering value to clients and partners by providing a holistic view of client’s technology needs and then providing unique solutions.
Michael’s background includes key positions at BellSouth, AT&T, Paradyne and Lucent Technologies. He has achieved a number of recognition goals and was named to the BellSouth President’s Club. As an entrepreneur, Michael served as Sales Vice President of Vobix – a startup in the Application Services Provider (ASP) industry – and in a multi-national startup, Spacecards, by serving as President and CEO.
Michael has held several positions within Kentucky State Government as the result of an appointment by Governor Brereton Jones. This included chairing the Strategic Planning Subcommittee of the Kentucky Information Resource Management Commission (KIRM), when in the role of Commissioner of Administrative Services and Chief Information Officer for the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet. Key achievements included the first statewide network for a State Police organization powered by AT&T UNIX Computers, as well as the first “Software Defined Network (SDN)” deployment to a state government.
Over the years Michael has been involved in community activities by serving on the board of the St. Matthews Little League and also by acting as mayor of the City of Norbourne which is located in Louisville, KY. He and his company currently work with and support the Family Scholar House in Louisville, an organization whose mission is to end the cycle of poverty by giving single-parent students the support they need to earn a four-year college degree.
